Simple Broadband MIMO-OFDM Transmission

In this paper we present research results for wireless transmission systems with linear antenna arrays at the transmitter and the receiver (multiple input multiple output MIMO) in combination with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in broadband channels. With these systems all three dimensions of wireless channels frequency, time and space can be addressed and various system designs are possible. Obvious, there exist neither a general MIMO-OFDM transmission system nor a receiver approach that works best in all propagation environments. Hence, we present two different transmitter approaches and analyze linear detection receiver as well as successive interference cancellation (SIC) algorithms with different realizations of interference feedback information for systems with varying degrees of diversity in space and frequency. We show that the simple linear detector is a competitive alternative regarding implementation complexity and performance in environments with available frequency diversity. Additionally, we propose a new transmission scheme that combines the advantages of the two introduced beforehand moderate implementation complexity and enhanced performance.
